This season has proved to be one of the most fruitful for equipping the Jeremiah Generation for ministry in the Church of God. In September of this year, two regions of our denomination held special summits for Aspiring Leaders of the Jeremiah Generation.

Understanding the quickly transforming roles of ministry outside the physical church building, Youth & Discipleship Director of Delmarva-DC, Brett Seals, recognized the need for ministry training in digital media as well as other modern avenues. On September 28, 2019 seventy-two young leaders met for a day of instruction and collaborative conversation.

The session leaders included Dr. Randall Parris, International Coordinator of Global Youth Leadership, Josh Martin, Youth & Discipleship Director of Pennsylvania, and Heather Seals, Girls Ministries Coordinator of Delmarva-DC. A major highlight of this conference included a “working lunch” with Delmarva-DC Administrative Bishop Stan Holder and Delmarva-DC Women’s Ministry President, Teresa Holder. During this lunch, the Holders expressed the importance of Jeremiah Generation leaders and led a constructive conversation on many current ministry issues. As a result of this event, attendees mentioned that they finally felt valued by the church and that their voices are indeed being heard.

A similar Jeremiah Generation movement is happening in Eastern North Carolina. Dewayne Moree, Youth & Discipleship Director of Eastern North Carolina stated, “As a Youth and Discipleship Director, I am constantly looking for ways to engage and empower this ‘Next’ and ‘Now’ generation. The global youth ministry plan has absolutely fit like a glove. Our state youth board and I have developed a plan of action to Identify, Equip, and Empower this Jeremiah Generation. We just needed a launching point.” This launching point took the form of a weekend conference September 27-28 where forty-five aspiring leaders of the Jeremiah Generation met together, along with four other generations of church ministers, for a time of learning and equipping.

With Assistant International Director of Youth & Discipleship, Rob Bailey, and Dr. Fred Garmon leading the sessions, attendees were instructed and challenged in the areas of identity, calling, care, communication, and more. Utilizing their current base of Jeremiah Generation leaders, Youth & Discipleship of Eastern North Carolina plans to extend invitations for a continuation of the summit in the form of a one-day training as well as extended education through a spring semester course.

These events are a confident indicator that the Church of God will continue with strong leadership for decades to come. With this Jeremiah Generation hungry for God, we can rest assured they will lead the charge for Christ right now and in the days to come.
